It's most commonly believed that an athlete's success comes from their hard work, commitment, and skill. While this is true, I believe there's one factor much more important than the rest. How supported does the athlete feel? Are they loved even if they don't play well?

Many youth athletes put more pressure on themselves than other people could imagine. They're nervous about performing well and a lot of that comes from making their parents proud.

Youth athletes feel as though if they don't play well they may not be loved or their parents won't be proud of them. This holds them back from exploring their potential and striving as an athlete because they're scared of what may happen if they fail.

This is where all of my parents out there come in. You need to encourage your young athletes to explore their abilities and let them know that it's okay to fail. Most importantly, they need to fail and then know that you're still so beyond proud of them for trying and that they're still loved.

This creates a healthy learning environment that allows youth athletes to push their limits with no fear because they always have you parents out there in their corner.
